Extravagant Spending in a Claimed Dilapidated Nigeria: A Call for Accountability in President Tinubu's Administration

President Bola Ahmad Tinubu, I strongly disagree with your assertion that you inherited a dilapidated Nigeria from former President Muhammadu Buhari. Here are my reasons:

How can a president who claims to have inherited a dilapidated Nigeria spend public funds extravagantly, as if inheriting a rich and prosperous country?

How would you justify the following extravagant expenditures under your government?

- 21 billion Naira to renovate the Vice President's house.
- 70 billion Naira for National Assembly members to buy SUVs, costing 160 million Naira each for Senators and House of Representatives members.
- 4 billion Naira to renovate Dodan Barracks in Lagos and another 3 billion Naira to renovate Aguda House.
- 5 billion Naira allocated to the Presidential Tax Reforms Committee, headed by Taiwo Oyedele, with little to show for it.
- 1.5 billion Naira to purchase cars for your wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, despite the fact that the First Lady's office is not recognized by our constitution.
- A 300% salary increase for judges, swiftly passed by the insensitive and irresponsible Senators.
- 5 billion Naira budgeted for the Presidential fleet of cars.
- Billions of Naira budgeted for trips for both you and Vice President Kashim Shettima, to the detriment of the citizens.
- Each Senator is paid 21 million Naira monthly.
- House of Representatives members earn 13.5 million Naira monthly, all increments made under your government.
- The 15 trillion Naira Lagos-Calabar coastal road was awarded illegally to your friend, Lebanese Gilbert Chagoury, who was deported by former President Obasanjo.

You have the largest number of ministers in the history of Nigeria. Where are you sourcing the money to pay them? You also created a Ministry of Livestock Development.

What happened to the Oronsaye report on downsizing and merging agencies, parastatals, and departments?

Where is the subsidy money that was removed on petroleum products and electricity? How much was saved and what was the money used for? President Bola Ahmad Tinubu, Nigerians are demanding to know.

The cost of governance has not reduced; instead, it has increased massively. We have:

- Fuel subsidy removed.
- Electricity tariff hikes.
- Education costs beyond the reach of ordinary citizens.
- Health services unaffordable for ordinary citizens.
- Food prices out of reach for ordinary citizens.
- Increased insecurity and killings.
- A collapsed economy.
- Rising unemployment.
- Corruption and theft of public funds legalized.
- Nepotism at the top of your agenda.

The President, Vice President, Governors, and their security votes remain intact, as do all the allowances paid to our leaders.

There is no single support that a citizen of Nigeria deserves from the government. Instead, we have renewed hopelessness, destitution, and deception.

Mr. President Bola Ahmad Tinubu, Governors, Ministers, top government officials, and service chiefs, your lifestyle and extravagant spending of public funds do not in any way show that President Tinubu inherited a dilapidated Nigeria. Leaders are getting richer while citizens are getting poorer. Look at how President Bola Ahmad Tinubu has been transformed physically, mentally, and financially to the detriment of Nigerians.

This trend must be arrested.

This is just a tip of insensitive leadership recklessness to mention a few.
